Sarnia’s Progressive Auto Sales Arena will host a big stage show for the first time in probably a decade, the Tourism Sarnia-Lambton official said.

The Cirque’s show, Holiday Dreams, A Spectacular Holiday Show, is booked for December 16 as part of Q Productions Las Vegas’ first Canadian performance tour, Mark Perrin said.

“The last big show would probably have been the Elton John concert in 2012” at the then RBC Center, he said.

There have been hockey tournaments and other sporting events in the meantime, he said, but nothing of this magnitude.

“From an actual production element, where we’ve really put together a full production set for this type of show, we’re really going back to ten years ago.”

He said it was exciting to return to the site as an entertainment hub. Tourism Sarnia-Lambton, he added, is planning another announcement soon for a Dec. 17 event at the facility.

“We’re looking forward to having that extra entertainment that we’ve been missing: those arena-type shows,” Perrin said.

Holiday Dreams tickets went on sale Oct. 7 for the family-friendly show, which features interactive acrobats, holograms and lasers, tourism officials said in a press release.

The Sarnia stop on the tour is positioned to be a major tourist draw, Perrin said, since Hamilton is closest to the other performances.

“We were able to really say, ‘Hey, for Southwestern Ontario, we want to be the show,'” Perrin said, adding that Holiday Dreams “checks all those boxes of something we haven’t had. in Sarnia-Lambton for a very long time. long duration.”

It is also one of the first events that Tourism Sarnia-Lambton books alone at the arena, he said, noting that these types of events are usually held in partnership with other entities.

“Working with some of our new priorities and really creating more tourism in the area, we went after a few events,” he said, “this being the first.”

Tickets and more information are available at or through Tourism Sarnia-Lambton at 1455 Venetian Blvd., Point Edward.
