Commuters demand Pune metro station name change after confusion

What’s in the name? Well, apparently a lot, especially for the Pune metro commuter. Within just a week of the projects inauguration, commuters raised a demand to change the name of the station to ‘Bhosari’. Located on the five kilometer stretch between Pimpri and Phugewadi, Bhosari station is in the Nashik Phata area with the Pune-Mumbai highway. However, the Bhosari suburb of the industrial town of Pimpri-Chinchwad is located at least 5 kilometers from Nashik Phata railway station.

Many commuters end up confusing ‘Bhosari’ station with nearby Bhosari suburb, which causes confusion and waste of time. Telling a story of this confusion to the Indian Express, Sachin Rangdal, a resident of Bhosari, said one of his relatives boarded the metro to come to Bhosari, however, when they got off at the station in Bhosari, they realized that the station they got off at had nothing to do with the original suburb.

Commuters and several social organizations have already written to MahaMetro for the renaming of Bhosari station which has caused a lot of confusion.

However, it is not the only station where commuters have reported such problems. Commuters complain that many stations are located far from the residential area of this locality. For example, the Nashik Phata station is located almost a kilometer from where the locals live. Similarly, Kasarwadi railway station is also over a kilometer from the suburb it is named after.

Commuters demand that the MahaMetro organize auto or bus food services so that people can easily reach the metro station

Reacting to the commuter’s request, MahaMetro’s spokesperson told IE that the organization is withdrawing the renaming of the Bhosari station and the decision could be made soon. However, there are currently no plans to organize car services to the metro station and commuters will have to organize themselves.

The 12 km section of the total 32.2 km Pune Metro project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 6. The project has been completed in more than 5 years since the laying of the foundations on December 24, 2016.
