A Hawke’s Bay auto repair business will remain closed for 10 days after a staff member tests positive for Covid-19.

John Bates’ wheel alignment director in Hawke’s Bay, Jason Bates, said the staff member told him about the positive test on Saturday.

The Hawke’s Bay DHB confirmed the case in the community on Sunday, saying the person tested positive as part of a routine surveillance swab when they visited the emergency department at Hawke’s Bay Hospital in Hastings after feeling sick.

Since then, the Hastings-based business has remained closed.

“We’re going to be closed for 10 days,” Bates said Tuesday.

“All of the staff – there are five of us – were treated as close contacts.

“We all returned a negative first test and we are all self-isolating.”

He said the second test for the staff would take place on Thursday.

“We are also going to thoroughly clean the store. “

The store was not listed as a place of interest by the Department of Health and Bates said it was because the Hawke’s Bay DHB told him it was not classified as “high. risk”.

“It’s a pretty big space,” he said.

“The staff member who tested positive was just working in the shop. He is isolated and has no contact with customers.”

Out of “extreme caution” everyone in the area that day was contacted by the store and they took a Covid test. All came back negative.
