YOUNGSTOWN – Auto sales in the Mahoning Valley last month declined slightly from November 2020, according to the latest data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association.

The association reported that sales of new and used vehicles in November were down 1.3 percent from a year ago with 4,143 deliveries. However, this is an improvement from the 26% drop in dealerships recorded in October compared to a year ago.

For the year, sales increased 5.6% from 2020 with 53,996 vehicles sold, but that percentage is down. It was 10.4% in September and 6% in October.

The new and used vehicle segments were down over the month, but still remain ahead of 2020.

In November, 1,837 new vehicles were sold, down 21.6% from a year ago. New vehicle sales remain up, albeit a modest 0.4% for the year to 27,312.

Used vehicle sales rose 26 percent to 2,232 in November. They remain up 12.3% until November with 25,360 vehicles sold.

The Mahoning County dealerships with the most sales to Valley buyers for the month were Fred Martin Ford, 222, the top-selling regional dealer in November; Taylor Kia of Boardman, 210; and Greenwood Chevrolet, 183.

The top sellers of new vehicles were Boardman’s Taylor Kia, 119; Fred Martin Ford, 93; and Fairway Ford, 90. The top sellers of used vehicles were Fred Martin Ford, 129; Chevrolet Greenwood, 114; and Boardman Subaru, 102.

Dealers in the 21 counties that make up the association sold 15,176 new vehicles in November, down nearly 18%. For the year, dealers sold 220,237 new vehicles, an increase of 1.7% from 2020.

“New vehicles always arrive at local dealerships but don’t spend a lot of time in the field,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the association. “Inventories will continue to grow slowly, but a full inventory recovery will take much, if not all, of 2022. Used vehicle sales will be where consumers can find alternatives. “
