Michigan drivers may be eligible for an additional $400


Checks for $400 will be distributed to eligible Michigan residents.

When will I receive the money?

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Anita Fox of the state’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) said the money would start flowing soon. Click here to read Continued.

Their announcement said the money will be distributed once a $3 billion transfer of excess funds to Michigan auto insurance companies is complete.

Once the transfer is complete, insurers will have 60 days to send checks for $400 per vehicle to eligible drivers.

Whitmer said, “I requested these refunds because I am committed to reducing costs for the people of Michigan and putting money back in people’s pockets.”

Auto insurers will have until May 9, 2022 to disperse checks.

How do I know if I am eligible?

Drivers do not have to apply to receive the $400. Checks will be automatically issued by the State Department of Insurance and Financial Services.

If you qualify but do not receive your check by the deadline, contact your insurance company. If you have questions that your insurance company cannot answer, contact DIFS at 833-ASK-DIFS (833-275-3437) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are also available by e-mail at [email protected]
