Obituary of Anthony Trapani (1928 – 2021) – Pittsfield, MA

Anthony Francis Trapani (Tony), 93, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Berkshire Medical Center after a short period of deteriorating health.

He was born in Pittsfield, MA on February 1, 1928, the son of the late Bruno and Francesca (Mastroianni) Trapani. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1944.

Tony was employed by General Electric Co., where he worked for 44 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a shop steward and leader of UIE Local 254 for 34 years. For over 20 years he has been a part-time assistant at D&W Auto Repair. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Tony was a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club and the Pensioners Club. He was a member and director of GEAA where he played golf. He played fastpitch softball for several GE teams and also played shortstop and third base for some of Tyler Aces’ early teams. Tony enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, walking, telling jokes and playing cards / games. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren at the CIHU Club (Character, Integrity, Honesty and Understanding), a club he created to guide them in life.

Besides his beloved wife of 72 years, Helen Mary (Skowronski) Trapani, Tony is survived by a son Bruce (Paula) Trapani of Orlando, FL and two daughters, Sharon (George) Ferry of Pittsfield and Rosanne Trapani of Enfield, CT. He will be sadly missed by his seven proudest grandchildren; Jeffery Trapani (partner Aisha), Nicholas Trapani, Jonathan (Chantal) Ferry, Keith (Caitlin) Ferry, Mark (Rena) Ferry, Erik Waananen (partner Samantha) and Audrey Waananen. Tony also leaves behind five great-grandchildren including Aidan Ferry, Logan Ferry, Adelyn Ferry, Sage Trapani and Eden Trapani and another great-grandson expected in March; and three brothers including Joseph Trepani of Florida; Dominick Trapani of Pittsfield; and Mario (Marie) Trapani of Pittsfield; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and grand-nephews. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by brothers John Trapani and Rocco Trapani.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Christian burial liturgy for Anthony Trapani will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday, December 3, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Church, 414 North Street, Pittsfield with Bishop Michael Shershanovich, pastor, officiant. In order to best ensure the health and safety of all, the wearing of a mask and social distancing must be compulsory. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
