Plastic Omnium provides engineering / production services for Lucid Air

Plastic Omnium says it provides Lucid with engineering and production services for its first electric sedan, the Air.

The supplier’s engineering and production background has supported the Silicon Valley-based automaker in its ambition to design an EV over the past five years.

Plastic Omnium’s mission was to bring the intent of the designs to life, creating and delivering the Air’s front and rear panels, including the fascias, rocker panels, and trunk lid.

To meet the design challenges required by Lucid, Plastic Omnium designed and produced its largest composite trunk lid ever.

Exterior panels are produced at Plastic Omnium plants in Silao and Ramos, Mexico for delivery to the Lucid plant in Casa Grande, Arizona.

“The length of our working relationship has allowed the emergence of breakthrough innovations, such as the largest boot lid on the market,” said Stéphane Noël, Chairman and CEO of Plastic Omnium Intelligent Exterior Systems.

Through its composite solutions, Plastic Omnium emphasizes that it contributes to the autonomy achieved by Lucid Air through weight gain, a key criterion for all electric vehicles.
