NEW DELHI: Industrialist Rahul Bajaj died on Saturday aged 83. He breathed his last around 2:30 p.m.
His final rites will be performed at Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune on Sunday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said Rahul Bajaj will have a state funeral.
Bajaj is survived by his sons, Rajiv and Sanjiv Bajaj, and his daughter Sunaina Kejriwal.
Rahul Bajaj was the chairman of Bajaj Group, best known for motorcycle manufacturer Bajaj Auto and financial services arm, Bajaj Finserv. He resigned as non-executive chairman of Bajaj Auto in April 2021.

After taking charge of the Bajaj Group business in 1965, Rahul Bajaj led it on the path to growth.

Tributes and condolences started pouring in for Rahul Bajaj. President Kovind called him in a tweet “the dean of Indian industry” who is passionate about his priorities.

Prime Minister Modi, in his condolences, said Bajaj “will be remembered for his remarkable contributions to the world of commerce and industry”.

Congressman Rahul Gandhi called Bajaj’s death a great loss for India.

Bajaj has “brought about a transformation in society, especially among the poor and middle class with its two-wheeled technology – a Bajaj bicycle! said NCP leader Sharad Pawar.

“My sincere respects to Rahul Bajaj, a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist and former President of Bajaj. I have had a personal relationship with Padma Laureate Bhushan Rahul ji for many years,” Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Twitter.
