State Department Takes Action Against Detroit Repair Plant

JANUARY 28, 2022

DETROIT — The Michigan Department of State (MDOS) has revoked the registration of a Detroit auto repair shop for multiple violations of the Michigan Service and Repair Act.

Representatives of 1 Mechanic Zone LLC, also known as Mechanic Zone, owned by Basam Hakop and located at 3001 E. 7 Mile Road in Detroit, appeared at an administrative hearing on January 12 to address repeated violations of the law, including violating a probation agreement, issuing incorrect invoices and violating mechanic certification requirements. An MDOS Administrative Law Examiner noted that Mechanic Zone has entered into three alternative sanctions agreements with the department since 2018 and has continued to commit essentially the same wrongdoings since then. The Administrative Law Examiner ordered the revocation of the establishment’s registration effective February 18.

Consumers who have a complaint against Mechanic Zone are encouraged to call the Office of Investigative Services Automotive Complaint Line at 517-335-1410.
