Steet Ponte Autogroup Hosts 5th Annual Coats for Kids Campaign

UTICA — The Steet Ponte Autogroup is holding its fifth annual Coats for Kids coat drive to benefit local elementary school children.

The coat drive runs until Tuesday November 1st and is looking for items such as snow pants, coats, hats, scarves and gloves, sizes 5T to id’s XL. Schools are looking for new items, at local stores like Children’s Place, TJ Maxx, Carter’s, Boscov’s and others.

Steve Cater, sales manager at Steet Ponte Ford, said there have been lots of donations so far and the coat drive is getting bigger and better every year.

“I don’t think there’s anything worse than not having a warm coat to wear when it’s cold outside, or not having a coat that fits you,” Cater said. “It’s just a good thing to do for the community.”

Drop-off locations in Oneida County are Steet Ponte stores on Commercial Drive, including Steet Toyota of Yorkville, Steet Ponte Nissan, Steet Ponte Mazda, Steet Ponte Ford Lincoln, Steet Ponte VW, and United Auto Sales of Utica.

Items donated to these stores will be given to elementary school children in Utica and Rome.

In Herkimer County, the drop-off location is Ponte Chevy Steet on Route 28, and donations will go to children who attend Herkimer Elementary School and Central Valley Academy.

Visitors can drop off their donations during opening hours, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
