The Shanghai Automobile Museum received four classic cars from individuals and companies over the weekend.
They will enrich the collections of the Jiading District Museum and promote automobile culture.
The four cars offered are a 1990 Benz 260E, 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood, 2001 Buick GS, and 2008 MG7.
The Cadillac Fleetwood is known as the “last American flagship car” and was among the largest cars imported into China in the 1990s.
Donations prolong the “life” of automobiles, enrich the museum’s collection, ensure better conservation of classic cars and enable more people to appreciate and discover the history, culture and art of the city. automobile, said the operator of the museum.
The museum has assembled a professional team for the maintenance and repair of vintage cars.
It takes up to a whole year for repair work on an old car, said Hu Huigang, who heads the team. He was awarded the title of “Jiading Craftsman” 2021.
“The work involves sophisticated techniques and knowledge in various fields,” he said. “It’s like repairing cultural relics. It’s important to restore the original look of vintage cars to match how they looked when they just rolled off the production line.”
